Fashion Emergency Kit

We've all had our OMG moments. From a broken heel at a party to a ketchup stain during your lunch break, sometimes life just seems to want to have a little fun at the expense of us humans and there's nothing we can do about it. Correction: there's nothing we could do about it. That's right, past tense. After many of those moments I have come up with a list of things that should always, ALWAYS be either a) in your purse (hey, they're huge anyway. Might as well fill them up) or b) in your glove compartment.

Here are the essentials for your fashion 911 moments:

* Nail Polish - In two shades, the one you have your nails painted this week and a clear one. If your nails break, you can quickly correct the chip with a few strokes and not look sloppy, which is the impression you'll give out at work going to a meeting with your manicure half-destroyed. The clear polish is for a less obvious purpose. If you notice your tights starting to run, dab a little of the clear polish at the end of it and let dry. The run won't be fixed but will stop expanding. Try Sally Hansen Nail Color Nude $2.24 at CVS Pharmacies.

* Instant Stain Remover- It works. It really does work. You apply it to the stain immediately after it happens and voilá, your shirt is white again. (Why, oh, why do we suddenly get sloppy when wearing white?) Try Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover Stick $2.99 at facevaluesonline.com.

* Sewing Kit - I confess, once I was almost left pantless in the middle of New York City as all four buttons in my shorts decided to suddenly fall off. I made a stop at a Forever 21 and bought a new pair but only after a good five blocks of walking down 5th holding my shorts up. The situation could have been easily fixed if I had had a needle and thread with me, gone into a bathroom and sewed the buttons back on. Try The Complete Sewing Kit $5 at Walgreens.

* Super Glue - Few things come close to the horror that is having one of your heels break in the middle of a party. I've seen girls break the other unbroken one and making their shoes a pair of flats but that was torture to watch and they weren't even mine. So if you feel your heel coming loose, go to the closest bathroom you can find, sit down and superglue the heel back on. If there's any leftover glue on the shoe, peel that off before adding more to it. Wait for it to dry and you're on your way. Try Scotch Super Glue $11.99 at Target.

* A Pair of Black Ballet Flats - This one will not fit in your purse but is definitely worth having in your car for when you try those brand new stilettos that you find out two hours later could double as torture devices. Try American Eagle Cameo Mary Jane $13.99 at Payless.

"Elegance is a question of personality, more than one's clothing." This sentence sums up what SavvyChic is all about. Every girl loves shoes, clothes, accessories but not all girls can afford brand names for the latest styles. And that never stopped anyone from looking great. Any woman can look fabulous without spending a lot of money, all it takes is some creativity and a personal sense of style. Being fashionable doesn't require hundreds of dollars worth of designer tags, and the biggest proof of that is that the author of the quote above is none other than Jean-Paul Gaultier.
